DYNASTY Dollars: The Business Behind the TV Series


A couple of articles from 1984 - when 'Dynasty' generated immense hype, prior to hitting the #1 spot in the ratings - which tap into the show's growing merchandising business.

Ballgowns, tuxedos, fragrances... The public was craving all things Dynasty and the merchandising industry behind the glitzy soap opera was said to have grossed over 400 million dollars within a year.

In 1987, when the show was well on its downward curve in the ratings, only the fragrances inspired by the show ("Forever Krystle" & "Carrington) generated a combined revenue of over $40 million.
